Wildfires are devastating communities across California, causing more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes and threatening many more. The Camp Fire in Northern California -- one of three blazing across the state -- is the most destructive in state history. We want to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you find access to shelter. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know the most effective ways to contribute.
Are you willing to volunteer to help seniors in your community? We are especially looking for one or two volunteers from Moose Lake, Barnum, or Mahtowa, MN, who are willing to become a Senior LinkAge Line counselor.
We are looking for volunteers who are willing to become trained Medicare counselors.
Counselors help Medicare consumers, their families and caregivers better understand Medicare options by providing information and referrals regarding resources. Counselors will also be asked to help Medicare consumers enroll in programs that could assist with health insurance costs and reduce prescription drug costs.
f you are interested in volunteering please contact us. Upon a successful background check and the completion of the three-day training class volunteers will receive certification through the Minnesota Board on Aging as a Health Insurance Counselor with the State Health Insurance and Assistance Program (SHIP). Our next volunteer training class will be Tuesday through Thursday, September 18 - 20, 2018 in Carlton, MN. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator with your questions or to request a volunteer application.
Volunteers will receive staff support, guidance, and on-going training as you provide assistance and outreach to seniors.
If you have questions please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at the Senior LinkAge Line(r) at 1-800-333-2433, Ext. 81019.
