Due to COVID -19 and in response to keeping all staff, volunteers and people in crisis safe we are canceling Common Grounds Monthly orientation. All group screenings and training sessions are postponed untlll further notice.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Common Ground. We are grateful for the generosity of the volunteers that donate their time and talents making our mission a reality of "helping people move from crisis to hope." Due to Governor Whitmer’s "stay-in-place" orders in regards to COVID-19, we have changed our regular volunteer activities.

While we would love to have you here, what you can do right now is support Common Ground staff and programs by letting people know that we are here if they are experiencing a crisis. Our 24 hour Resource and Crisis Helpline is available through phones and text by dialing 1-800-231-1127. People can also be connected to a trained crisis worker through our chat program by clicking on the chat link on our website, www.commongroundhelps.org.

We are hopeful to re-establish our normal volunteer activities soon. We will send you information about upcoming volunteer trainings.

We are searching for someone amazing like you to volunteer on Common Ground's Resource and Crisis Helpline, assisting others move from Crisis To Hope through phone, chat and text. Come learn how you could make a difference and Be The One!

We host a volunteer information orientation the first Wed. Of every month at 6:00 pm. The next information session is cancled due to the events going on at this time. Come by to learn more about all the opportunities Common Ground has to help Move People From Crisis To Hope.

Mission Statement

Common Ground's mission is to help people to move from Crisis to Hope. The agency's 24 - hour crisis hotline, youth and family services, emergency psychiatric services and other programs throughout Oakland County, MI are a lifeline for runaway and homeless youth, families in crisis, victims of crime, people with mental illness and others in critical situations. Common Ground serves over 30,000 individuals a year. Most of our services are provided free of charge.

Description

Our 24-hour crisis line (1.800.231.1127) receives more than 45,000 calls annually representing a variety of crisis situations including: suicide, victimization, relationship problems, substance abuse, domestic violence, financial problems, and mental illness. Crisis line volunteers, 16-years or older, connect, asist and listen to callers and provide information and referrals from a database of more than 4,500 sources. Our Crisis Chat and Text programs provide an outlet for people in crisis to talk anonymously and confidentially about any issues they are facing. The phone and text line (1.800.231.1127) is available seven days per week, 24 hours per day. The Crisis Chat is available through Common Ground's website at www.commongroundhelps.org
