Located in New York’s Hudson Valley, Catskill Animal Sanctuary is a 110-acre haven for horses and farm animals rescued from cruelty and neglect. In addition to emergency rescue, CAS offers innovative programs that educate the public about the sentience of farm animals, and the devastating impacts of agribusiness and institutionalized cruelty on animals, people, and the planet.
CAS offers tours to meet the animals, workshops, retreats, speaking engagements, a children's camp, a vegan culinary program and special events. Since 2001, CAS has rescued over 3,500 animals, and works in tandem with law enforcement to bring animal abusers to justice.
CAS operates with a small, full-time staff, so we rely on caring and dedicated volunteers for much of what we do. If you love animals and want to create a more compassionate world for all beings, then come volunteer at CAS! You’ve got skills, talents, and energy that we need! We’re looking for help in the following areas: Shelter/pasture cleaning, animal grooming, unloading supplies Database updating, computer-based research projects Summer camp operations Video, photography and graphic design projects Assisting with cooking classes, prepare/serve food for special events Landscaping, painting, plumbing, electrical, carpentry Guesthouse operations Literature drop-off/distribution, tabling at festivals/conferences Greeting visitors, selling tour tickets, and merchandise in the Welcome Hut Tour guide assistants For your safety and the safety of our animal residents, the minimum age to volunteer is 12; volunteers who are 12-15 years old must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Description
Located two hours from New York City, Catskill Animal Sanctuary provides a safe and loving haven for abused and abandoned horses and farm animals - animals who have never known warm shelter, spacious pastures, good food, or the touch of a kind hand. Since 2001, CAS has provided refuge for about 1,400 animals.
Hundreds of visitors from around the country visit CAS from April through October each year. Special events such as our annual Shindig attract up to 1,000 people for music, vegan cooking, auctions, and up-close-and-personal time with the animals!
