Girls on the Run DC

Girls on the Run - DC is a life-changing, positive youth empowerment program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

Every year, we want to ensure that all of our sites and schools feel supported and that the girls are safe and happy. Team Adelaide (TA) is a group of trained volunteers who conduct one site visit to a Girls on the Run - DC team during the 10-week season. Team Adelaide visits help Girls on the Run - DC to ensure uniform program delivery and quality.

The visit will take place between April 1st and April 30th During this visit, the TA member will meet the Coaches, watch a practice, learn about the girls, complete an informal site observation checklist, and collect site health information via a form provided by Girls on the Run - DC. All information and observations collected during your visit will be submitted to Girls on the Run - DC via an online survey.

As an added benefit, all members of Team Adelaide will receive a free registration code for the end-of-season 5K on Sunday, May 17th, at Anacostia Park.

Mission Statement

Girls on the Run is a life-changing, character development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade. Our mission is to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.

Girls on the Run-DC is an independent council of Girls on the Run International, founded in 1996, by Molly Barker, a visionary, Ironman triathlete. Today, there are nearly 170 locations across the U.S. & Canada, with new locations added each year. Girls on the Run combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) event with healthy living education. We use exercise, positive reinforcement, and encouraging role models to help girls discover the confidence they need in the critical pre-teen years and beyond.
