Girls on the Run DC

Girls on the Run - DC is a life-changing, positive youth empowerment program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

We welcome enthusiastic, dedicated and positive volunteers who are committed to empowering girls with valuable life lessons. Coaches are parents, teachers, school administrators, college students and other community members who are committed to developing and celebrating our girls.

We have two requirements for our Community Coaches: commit to working with a group of girls for two practices a week throughout the 10-week season and bring energy and joy to each practice!

As a Community Coach, here are a few things to keep in mind:

- All new Community Coaches must attend a 4 hour in-person training on August 24th or September 7th in addition to completing a 1-hour online training prior to in-person training.

- You are committing to volunteer 75-90 minutes, two times per week for 10 weeks, with additional time needed for the 5K.

Mission Statement

Girls on the Run is a life-changing, character development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade. Our mission is to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.

Girls on the Run-DC is an independent council of Girls on the Run International, founded in 1996, by Molly Barker, a visionary, Ironman triathlete. Today, there are nearly 170 locations across the U.S. & Canada, with new locations added each year. Girls on the Run combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) event with healthy living education. We use exercise, positive reinforcement, and encouraging role models to help girls discover the confidence they need in the critical pre-teen years and beyond.
