Tutors: The intent of this program is to tutor students in basic skills and comprehension of subject materials. Students are referred to this program by classroom teachers - these are students who need reinforcement in reading and math.
Duties include:
Working with the tutors in various classroom assignments
Listening to a student read
Assisting students with their writing assignments
Encouraging conversations with students
Assisting students with basic elementary level math.
Homework Assistant: The intent of this program is to assist students with individual homework questions and encourage productive study habits.
Volunteers will help children excel in their schoolwork and prepare them for higher education goals.
Duties Include:
Helping student complete their homework assignments
Helping establish a quiet study environment
Encouraging conversations with students, building a child's self-confidence
Qualifications/Skills Needed: Must love working with children. K-8th grade students. Previous experience work in a school environment is a plus. Volunteers need to be flexible and have a positive attitude when working with children.
Volunteers must attend a pre-service interview and complete a volunteer registration packet. Applicants must pass screening process which includes a criminal background check and TB test. The process can take two to six weeks.
Time Commitment Needed: 2-4 hours each week - during the entire school year
Orientation/Training: Volunteer orientation and on-the-job training will be provided by program staff. Volunteers also will be asked to participate in an annual In-Service training.

We serve all of San Mateo County and the cities of Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View. Palo Alto, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills in Santa Clara County.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR COMMUNITY!
RSVP provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, pre-service orientation, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
