Tutoring at BGCSV

Power Hour is comprehensive homework assistance and tutoring program designed to raise the academic proficiency of Club members.

The philosophy underlying Power Hour is that the benefits of homework are threefold: academic, behavioral and social.

By working on homework after school, members reinforce skills and concepts learned that day which impacts long-term improvements in members’ grades and test scores. Not only that you would help our members develop great habits, communication skills and also feel the support they often lack.

All members participate in Power Hour daily and we need your help to smash it!

Volunteers should be available one hour Monday-Thursday 2:30-5:30

Volunteers choose the day of the week and time.

Mission Statement

To inspire and empower all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Description

At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley, we have been enriching the lives of children in the Santa Clara Valley for more than six decades. By providing access to innovative programs, inspiring leaders and an enlightened perspective on life, we help children overcome boundaries and achieve their dreams.

Founded in 1944, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley (BGCSV) is an affiliate member of the Boys & Girls Club of America, and currently serves over 3,000 members, ages 6 to 18, at 9 facilities throughout the San Jose area.

Our target population in the City of San Jose is at-risk youth ages 6 to 18 that are vulnerable to influences from gangs and other negative pressures that would adversely affect their abilities to become successful adults.
