"We are a program that goes to the streets and helps homeless and street kids. We feed, clothe, and counsel them, helping kids get off the streets. Our volunteers are consistently making the difference in the lives of hundreds of homeless and street kids on a weekly basis." Whatever your skills or time commitment, we can use your help! STANDUP FOR KIDS has been recognized by the White House on three occasions, the U.S. Justice Department, The Governor's Office for Children, Arizona on two occasions, the Secretary of State for Colorado, American Express, AT&T and USWest, and has been awarded the prestigious JCPenney Golden Rule Award. "We tell homeless and street kids that we care about them and then go to the streets and prove it!" After receiving our extensive training program, Outreach Counselors go to the streets, for a few hours each week, to help homeless and street kids. We take food, clothes, hygiene products, and information to help the kids that believe no one any longer cares.. We do!

Mission Statement
StandUp For Kids Houston mission is to end the cycle of youth homelessness. We carry out our mission through our volunteers who go to the streets in order to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and street kids improve their lives.
Description
The Houston chapter has been in operation since 2005 running different programs to relieve the youth homelessness. We started with Street Outreach at the Montrose neighborhood by reaching out to the homeless youth and giving them non-perishable food, clothing and hygiene products. In 2011, we were fortunate to obtain a center to accomplish our Drop-In program. Through the Drop-in center, the clients have a safe place to socialize, to enjoy a hot meal and to take with them basic necessities such as hygiene supplies, clothing, shoes and food. For a few hours at the center, the youth can take the advantage of our services and resources. We provide help in obtaining ID, resume preparation, and resources for housing. Our third program, Apartment Support, emerged in 2013 to provide food and housing supplies to clients who were able to obtain housing through various grants.
