Nora's Home
Providing affordable lodging for transplant patients and their families.

There is nothing like coming home to a delicious, hot meal. We are seeking individuals or groups to sign up to be a Chef of the Day by providing and serving a meal to the families staying at Nora's Home. Groups of up to 6 people can prepare food (on site) or have it catered and serve a buffet style meal for families staying with us. You do the cooking and we will provide the paper goods and plastic ware.

The highest occupancy of the week is Wednesday night, but we would be happy to accommodate your schedule. We ask that food be ready to be served at 6:0 0pm. Guests begin arriving back from their medical appointments around 5:30 often tired and hungry. Some may return as late as 6:30 pm. Expect to continue serving until about 7:30 pm. On a high occpancy nights, you can expect to provide a hot meal to about 15-18 guests. You will receive an email a couple of nights before you are scheduled to serve to get a better headcount.

Mission Statement

Nora’s Home offers transplant patients and their families an affordable place to stay where they can find support and share experiences with others, in the comfort of a home-like environment

Description

Patients suffering from end stage organ disease and facing the need for life saving transplant surgery must deal with many challenges. Medical care often requires them to travel far from home and many patients awaiting transplant, under-going surgery or having follow-up care must stay in Houston for many months. During this difficult time, and in addition to their tremendous medical expenses, patients and their families are burdened with the high cost of lodging, the loneliness of being away from their loved ones and the fear of losing their jobs, homes and way of life.

Nora’s Home is a new, freestanding facility near the Texas Medical Center at 8300 El Rio Street. Built with the specific needs of transplant patients and families in mind it includes: 32 private bedrooms and baths, a fully equipped kitchen, a meditation room, exercise room, warm and inviting common spaces, an education center and free shuttle services to the medical center.
