Nudges Intern Position Description
Position Start Date: October 1, 2018
A food "nudge" is a subtle environmental change in a food distribution setting, designed to make a healthy choice the easy choice. The Nudges Intern will support the Second Harvest Food Bank Nutrition Department by educating our partner agencies (soup kitchens, food pantries, homeless shelters, etc) on how to implement nudges so their clients will eat healthy food. As a Nudges Intern you will:
*Design tools that will encourage clients to eat healthy/unfamiliar items
*Work with SHFB Nutrition Education Managers and partner agencies to understand what "difficult items" are and why people don’t take these items
To effectively execute this Internship you will need to:
*Have passion for nutrition and for helping people eating healthy
*Have great communication skills
*Commit 10 hours of your time per week
*Have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive to Partner Agencies
*6 week commitment minimum
*This is an unpaid internship

Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is a private non-profit organization that collects and distributes more than 12 million pounds of food each month. We currently serve an average of over 500,000 individuals each month; 60% are low income families and 20% are seniors. By building collaborative networks, we efficiently distribute food by leveraging donations of money, food and human resources. But we cannot do it alone.
