Volunteer will work directly with a group of boys ages 10-15 at Family Village Issaquah. Volunteer supports the FVI Programs department in providing resident services to its young male youth population.

The goal of the Teen Boy's Group Coordinator is to provide positive experiences for boys, ages 10-15, that help develop leadership qualities, increase self-esteem, and give boys opportunities to contribute to their community. This group will allow these young men to discuss issues that only boys can understand, find support in one another and be influenced by a positive male role model. It is our mission to offer these boys a chance to grow, bond and develop with each other and individually into wonderful young men. We know this can only be done with a solid support system.

Volunteer will be responsible for coordinating Teen Boy's Group at Family Village Issaquah. Volunteer facilitates scheduled group meetings. Purpose is to engage boys, ages 10-15, in activities that encourage leadership development, camaraderie with other boys, opportunities for civic engagement, and social development.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with youth in mentoring or coaching type of role.
  • Ability to motivate and coordinate small groups.
  • Skilled at organizing and providing direction in planning.
  • Volunteer must be interested in have some knowledge of the social and emotional issues that impact the lives of middle school-aged boys.
  • Must also be able to work with youth from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Must have strong desire to encourage leadership development in boys.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Able to make a minimum of a 8 week commitment.

All volunteers will also attend a one-hour site orientation and pre-training with supervisor that covers an introduction to the program and the position and addresses cultural competency and best practices for working with at-risk youth. Continued guidance will be provided by supervisor and on-site program staff.

It is our hope to run a 6-8 week long support group, day of the week is open for discussion and a 4:30-6:00pm class time is desired. Day at time TBD with the right volunteer match.
