The Arizona StandDown is an alliance of community-based organizations that come together to provide annual, one to three day events that bring together the State's homeless and at-risk military veterans, connecting them with services ranging from: VA HealthCare, Mental Health Services, Clothing, Meals, Emergency Shelter, Transitional and Permanent Housing, ID/ Drivers License's, Court Services and Legal Aide, Showers and Haircuts and myriad other services and resources. Arizona StandDowns are held at various locations throughout the State with the largest, serving approximately 1,500 veterans, at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum at the Arizona State Fairgrounds in Maricopa County.
The Maricopa StandDown is being held from Thursday, January 25 through Friday, January 26 at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum at the Arizona State Fairgrounds. Over 2,000 volunteers are needed to serve our veterans over these two days. Volunteers are needed for many roles to put on this great event.
The primary volunteer role we are recruiting for are Guest Guides. Guest guides are critical to the event experience for our guest. Volunteers are matched with a veteran and help guide that person through the myriad of services offered onsite. Volunteers will receive an onsite orientation and be equipped with a site map to help navigate the service areas onsite. Below are the shifts:
- Thursday, January 25
- 7:30am-11am (highest need)
- 9am-5pm (high need)
- Friday, January 26
- 9am-5pm
- 10:30am-2:30pm
- 1:30pm-5pm
