Join a great community of volunteers and help Chicago better appreciate its river. Friends of the Chicago River's canoe program program is built on extensive volunteer support. Our volunteer canoe guides, once trained, help lead canoe trips from April to October. Training for 2017 occurs on April 1 and 15. We lead trips for people of all ages in many different parts of the city. Our guides are passionate, hard-working, and love paddling on the river! Visit http://www.chicagoriver.org/get-involved/attend/canoe-program for more information and to apply, or contact Claire Snyder directly at csnyder@chicagoriver.org.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Friends of the Chicago River is to advocate and foster the vitality of the Chicago River for the human, animal and plant communities within its watershed.
Description
Friends' work can be categorized into three main areas of focus - Education, Policy and Planning, and On-the-Ground Projects. Education is vital to us because it teaches people about the river and physically connects them to the river. Friends involvement in the arena of policy and planning is important because we are able to make a systematic difference for the river. It's our goal that when the system is working, that the river is being protected. Friends is involved with many communities, local government, and municipalities to work on physical projects to help improve the river. These projects will restore ecosystems, restore stream banks, filter storm water, and improve wildlife habitat. Friends' gets involved with these on the ground projects so that we can touch and see the difference that we make on our river.
