Become a certified Conflict Resolution Specialists (CRS) / mediator for both regular and litigated disputes. The program provides training and practice opportunity for candidates who are interested in the legal, social service, and non-profit sector. Candidates will have chance to experience the "behind the scenes" work for mediators as well as frontline practice of mediation from the very beginning to the end, for different type of cases, include business to business, consumer-merchant, family-domestic, government-public, landlord-tenant, neighbor-neighbor, organizational, personal injury cases as well as work related cases. Candidates will receive a certificate of mediation training and professional practice after finishing the committed internship/ volunteer hours.
Responsibilities: Candidates will be responsible for the following tasks after minimum 40-hour mediation and conflict resolution training and orientation: Conduct case intake interviews, interacting with clients, performing casework Observe and perform mediation and conciliation Assist with community education, public presentations, outreach programs and day-to-day office operations
Skills:
Open to all backgrounds (legal, social services, psychology background preferred)
Strong writing and speaking skills preferred
Previous mediation experience is a plus
Bilingual preferred (Asian languages/Spanish)
Interested in community and grassroots work
Organized, detail-oriented
Self-motivated and willing to learn
Case work / Management

Requirements:
Complete minimum 200 hours (excluding 40-hour Basic Mediation Training) over a 9-12 month period with minimum 9 month period;
Minimum time commitment is 4 hours per week;
Maximum attendance is twice per week Monday through Friday
Commitment to complete intensive, online and in-person training and orientation

Description
APADRC is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1989 to provide dispute resolution services to traditionally underserved communities that often face language, culture, and income barriers. The Center recognizes that cultural differences can play a role in contributing to a conflict; consequently, APADRC acts as a bridge to assist parties in reaching mutual understandings and equitable solutions.
