Library computer class in session
Volunteer, Fran, offers personal assistance to a participant in the Library's computer class.

Could you imagine trying to navigate through everything in our society without any computer skills - finding/applying for a job, researching information, emailing family and friends, etc. It would almost be like living on on Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island while everyone else is mainland in 2015. Everyday, people visit the library asking for help with computers. We are looking for volunteers with good presentation and computer skills to lead community computer classes to meet this need. Volunteers teach basic computer classes to adults at the Downtown Chandler Library. Classes often include MS Office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), introductions to the computer and internet and social/professional networking classes. Volunteers can select which classes they like to teach. Classes may be taught in English or Spanish. This is an on-going volunteer opportunity and we do ask for a minimum of a 6-month commitment. Volunteers must first attend a volunteer orientation, provide references and attend specific training for computer instructors. New volunteers can observe a computer class and work with a veteran volunteer until they feel ready to lead. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. No prior teaching experience is needed.
