Coaching the Girls on the Run (GOTR) program is the most rewarding way to get involved with GOTR. You get to experience the program first hand, feel a sense of accomplishment that you have made a difference in the lives of the girls and have a ton of fun with your team of coaches and incredible girls! POSITION INFORMATION : Job Summary/Responsibilities : A GOTR coach is a volunteer position that facilitates and supports the GOTR curriculum. The position entails approximately 1 ½ - 4 hours per week for 10 weeks with additional weekend time required for coach training; end of season 5k race event; and First Aid/CPR training, if necessary. Coaches can choose to attend both program sessions per week OR commit to only one day a week. We ask each coach to determine which schedule works best for them and to maintain that schedule throughout the program for consistency on behalf of the girls. Each site will have a coaching team comprised of 3 or more coaches per team. At least one member of the coaching team will be designated as the lead coach and must commit to attending both practices each week, be CPR certified and manage communication with parents and GOTR staff. Only those coaches who have completed the GOTR coach training will be permitted to lead the lesson. All others will be designated as assistant coaches and will assist the lead coach during the GOTR sessions. This volunteer position may be used as a service learning project, internship, or other college credit project upon agreement of the college/university and the GOTR Director. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:  An understanding and belief in the mission and program of GOTR and ability to articulate them to parents and school officials  Preparing, organizing, and leading the program participants through each lesson  Serving as a role model and mentor; coaching program participants on proper stretching, running form, hydration and sports nutrition as outlined in the GOTR curriculum  Attending the end of season 5k race with program participants and other volunteers  Maintaining close communication with volunteer manager and/or executive director throughout season  Interacting with parents of program participants QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE :  A lead coach must be at least 21 years of age and pass background check  Assistant coaches must be at least 18 years of age and pass background check  Junior assistant coaches must be at least 16 years of age and work under supervision of lead coach  A strong desire to work in the field of girl development  Experience working with pre-teen girls in a positive environment  Excellent communication and organizational skills  The ability to be flexible and to improvise when needed  Ability to inspire and motivate others to believe in the GOTR mission  The ability to recognize conflict and have the skills to help resolve it  The capacity to work in a partnership with a co-coach and/or assistant coaches  First Aid/CPR certification or willing to become certified  Enjoys running/walking either recreationally or competitively

Our Program
Girls on the Run is a 501(c)3 positive youth development program which combines an interactive curriculum and running to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in pre-teen girls. Our core curriculum addresses many aspects of girls' development - their physical, emotional, mental and social well-being. Lessons provide girls with the tools to make positive decisions and to avoid risky adolescent behaviors.

Objectives
The objective of Girls on the Run is to educate and empower girls at an early age in order to prevent the display of at-risk activities in the future. At risk activities include substance/alcohol use, eating disorders, early onset of sexual activity, sedentary lifestyle, depression, suicide attempts and confrontations with the juvenile justice system.
