Music connects to memories
Please join us in developing playlists which connect to the music we love

We are implementing a program with our elders to support the music they love. Musicandmemory.org is an organization which inspired us to begin to develop personal playlists downloaded onto IPODs for each person living with us as a way to retain memories and build on positive emotional memories from the past. From Led Zepplin to the Andrew Sisters, we all have music that reminds us of a moment in time or can bring us back to an important place in our lives. For people with a diagnosis of dementia, they begin to lose the ability to recall these emotional laden songs, and can be supported by the development of "personalized playlists" to keep them connected to who they are as the disease progresses. We have begun the journey to develop a volunteer base of people interested in building relationships with people to develop that playlist and download it onto personal devices for the coming year. it is a long range project and will require a large support of people as we move forward!

As a volunteer, you will be able to:

1. Spend time one on one with elders (at least 2 hours per week) in our community choosing and listening to music- creating playlists.

2.Give of your time to coordinate an IPOD drive in your own community

3.Give of your time to collect and download a variety of music.
