SCAN’s Child Advocacy Center works to investigate and prosecute cases of physical and sexual abuse, as well as provide trauma-informed therapy to children who have experience abuse. The program also supports the families of these children.
The Child Advocacy Center is in need of volunteers to create a safe, nurturing and welcoming environment for all the children and families that come to the center. The volunteers will greet clients, monitor playroom activities, answer the door and phone, and assist with other administrative tasks as needed. We rely heavily on volunteers to keep everything running at the CAC! Each day really varies in this role, so some days you may be sitting with a child and playing with dolls or trains, while another day you may be making copies or helping to clean the play area. Volunteers are supervised by the Child Advocacy Center Coordinator. We are looking for volunteers who are able to commit to a 2-4 hour shift every week during daytime hours and make a semester long commitment when possible.
Greater Richmond SCAN’s mission is to prevent and treat child abuse and neglect throughout the Greater Richmond area by protecting children, promoting positive parenting, strengthening families and creating a community that values and cares for its children.
