The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
Silverado Hospice is looking for volunteers to join our team. Our patient's are terminally ill and in their final stages of life. As a Hospice Volunteer you will be visiting Alzheimer's patients in our Silverado Assisted Living Community. The main difference in visiting Alzheimer’s patients is that they are limited in their ability to verbally and coherently communicate. These patients require volunteers with patience and ability to connect through presence not typical conversation. Your visits become more about the activities you do together rather than the conversation. They are often very confused and unable to hold regular conversation. We need volunteers who are willing to read the paper or a book to the patient, play & listen to soothing music, talk, bring flowers from a garden, share photos, or just sit quietly and be the gift of presence for them. If you are intrested please reply to this opportunity.
