Hankerd dry sand prairie and oak barrens is a neat place that needs ongoing removal of invasive shrubs to keep it in good condition! We will be cutting small black locust and any other shrubs that don’t belong. Help us protect this site and the neat native plants that call it home! Meet at the Halfmoon Lake entrance to help out. From North Territorial Road, take Hankerd Road north until you see the entrance on the left. Map/GPS coordinates: 42.4140822,-83.9927

Mission Statement
To preserve, protect and restore the natural and cultural resources present within Michigan State Parks for this and future generations.
Description
Volunteers will help steward natural areas (woodlands, wetlands, prairies, etc.) within Michigan state parks and recreation areas. These efforts will help protect entire ecosystems as well as individual species - especially those in greatest need of conservation ("Species of Special Concern" and those whose populations are "Threatened" or "Endangered").
Currently, Core Volunteer Stewards are volunteering at monthly volunteer workdays on weekends at 7 southeast Michigan parks and recreation areas. Volunteers do a variety of activities throughout the year including: removing invasive non-native plants, collecting seed from native plants, and planting native seedlings. Volunteers can also participate in a number of Individual Projects like Insect Monitoring, Photographic Monitoring and Invasive Plant Mapping - to name a few.
No previous experience is need to participate, though some training might be necessary for certain projects.
