Do you want to make a difference in Cedar Park? Hospice Volunteers needed!

ORGANIZATION: Altus Hospice

  • 20 people are interested

Volunteers are the members of our Altus Hosp team that do not have an agenda when they go see patients. We are always looking for Volunteers in multiple areas. In Cedar Park, specifically the 78613 zip code, we have a couple of Volunteer needs:

  • Be a friendly visitor for our patients, be a friend, help a patient "forget" for a moment and just truly enjoy life. A few of the activities our current Volunteers have done during visits are: dance, sing, read a bible out loud, paint fingernails, listen to stories about traveling all over Europe, peole watch, go for a walk, and share a Hersey's candy bar.

Our Volunteers:

  • Go thru orientation. Orientation will be on a Saturday in Mid January!

  • Do not provide direct medical care. However, they are advocates for our patients and will call into the office is an issue or problem arises.

  • Do not need medical experience.

  • Need a giving heart!

  • Need to be reliable.

  • Become an integral and active part of the Hospice Care Team. This means Volunteers have direct contact with the other Hospice Team members (nurse, chaplain, social worker etc.) who are taking care of the same patient.

  • Volunteer where they want. So if you want to stay within 20 miles of your house, I respect that.

  • Volunteer when they want. For example: If you have one hour a week, or two hours every other week, that works! You will make your own schedule!

  • Choose what they want to do. For example, if at any time you decide you want to volunteer in a different way than visiting patients, like making gifts, working in the office, making cakes or blankets for our patients - just let me know.

Has your interest been stirred? I would LOVE to hear from you! PLEASE include your name, email, and phone number. I look forward to hearing from you! Katrina Wilson :)
