Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities is reaching out for help with an upcoming special event!
Playhouse Square is hosting a sensory-friendly performance of Brown Bear, Brown Bear & Other Treasured Stories by Eric Carle , at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2017, making live theater more accessible to children and adults on the autism spectrum and their families. For this special performance, accommodations will include a supportive audience environment, designated quiet areas, adjustments to light and sound and online resource materials.
Volunteers are needed to make this theatrical experience enjoyable for the many guests who come to the Ohio Theater at Playhouse Square for this unique performance!
The time commitment would be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2017 . While experienced Playhouse Square ushers (aka Red Coats) will be on hand to help guests find their seats and answer questions about the theater, additional volunteers are needed in the isles to guide guests and families to the restrooms, to areas where specially designed activities can be enjoyed, and to quiet areas which will be available for those who may need to rest or regroup. Additional volunteers will serve as greeters at various theater entrances. A few volunteers are might also be needed to assist staff representatives from sponsoring organizations with possible activity tables. Volunteers should be 14 and older, possess a positive and calming demeanor, and have the stamina to be on their feet for approximately two-and-a-half hours. Coffee and donuts will be provided during the volunteer orientation, which begins at 9:30 a.m. Also, volunteers are asked to wear black dress slacks. Playhouse Square will be providing a red volunteer t-shirt for identification purposes.
As a "thank you" for volunteers, Playhouse Square has generously offered up to four (4) complimentary tickets to a steampunk-styled, pedal-powered performance of Pedal Punk , which takes place on Sunday, May 7, 2017 1:30 p.m. For more information on this performance, please visit www.playhousesquare.org/events/detail/international-childrens-theater-festival-pedal-punk.
Information on how to receive your free tickets will be provided.
If you can volunteer with us for this unique, collaborative event, please contact Stefanie Galbreath at Galbreath.Stefanie@CuyahogaBDD.org or 216-339-9509 by Monday, January 23, 2017.
