While working with CAIR-WA, the volunteer Media Research and Analysis Assistant will play a valuable role in our Seattle Times Analysis project. This position is ideal for a student or professional looking to gain valuable experience in working in a professional office setting, while learning more about CAIR-WA's work in promoting informative, representative coverage of Islam and Muslims in local news media.

No previous experience is required for this position.

As part of the Media Research and Analysis team, s/he will perform office and filing tasks for the Seattle Times Analysis project, primarily managing the organization of numerous newspaper clippings from throughout 2014. In addition, s/he will be responsible for the creation of a collection of these clippings in an online dropbox. In addition to these tasks for the Seattle Times Analysis project, s/he will confidently greet and direct office visitors, take incoming phone calls and detailed messages for our staff, provide general information about CAIR, and calmly respond to people seeking CAIR's help.

Additionally, s/he will help maintain a clean and organized office environment. S/he may be asked to perform other tasks as needed.

Basic orientation and a detailed procedure manual are provided to quickly become acquainted with task procedures. Requirements Confident, professional demeanor Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as editing and proof-reading skills Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel Demonstrated punctuality and reliability Internal sense of urgency and initiative that promotes focus, creative thinking and solutions Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to details

Time commitment: A minimum six month, six hours per week commitment is required. This position requires all hours to be completed in the office, within the hours of 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday.

Office location: Our physical office (different from our mailing address) is conveniently located near downtown Seattle just two blocks from Metro's International District Tunnel Station. Any bus that goes to downtown Seattle from across the Puget Sound region can drop you within 2 blocks of our office.
