Resolving to Help Others? Change a Life, Teach an Adult to Read
ORGANIZATION: Monterey County Free Libraries - King City Branch Library
Please visit the new page to apply.
"Help Others" or "Volunteer" show up on annual top ten lists of New Year's Resolutions. If they're on your list, consider becoming an adult literacy tutor.
Imagine not being able to fill out a job application, read prescription directions, or help your children with their homework. This is the reality for many adults in Monterey County. In fact, one in four adults reads below the fourth grade level.
You can help by joining the growing corps of volunteers that help adult learners read, write, speak, and understand English better. Meet with a learner two hours per week for at least six months. New volunteers may join the program at any point during the year.
We'll give you the training and resources, and match you with an adult eager to gain the skills to make their resolution to improve their life possible.
The next two-part, five-hour training starts with Part I on Tuesday, January 24 at the Marina Branch Community Room, and Part II on Thursday, January 26 at the Seaside Branch Homework Center; both nights are from 6:00-8:30 p.m.
Make your resolution a reality. Join us today.
