ORGANIZATION: Circle of Children

Circle of Children is inviting web designers to assist us in the development of a social media network for our newest youth empowerment project, GEM.

What is GEM?

Global Empowerment Mandala (GEM) is designed to unify young people and support their creative brilliance by providing the tools, guidance and resources they require to take their solutions for peace and make them a reality. One of the tools through which we do this is a social media platform that makes it inspiring and easy for young people to get involved. This virtual hub will be a space dedicated to sharing resources and expressing our unique gifts in service to a collective vision for peace and positive change.

We are inviting youth (ages 12-24), community mentors, schools, non-profit organizations and eco-conscious companies to join GEM’s philanthropic community network. Everyone who joins will be invited to support youth members by offering resources, mentorship, volunteer opportunities and any other gifts they find it within their hearts to provide. This ensures that young people who join the network will receive an abundance of opportunities and resources to support them as they set out to create positive change in their local and global community.

GEM's Social Media Platform

We are designing a social media platform that will be clean, attractive, extremely user friendly and highly functional. Our intention is to make it look beautiful and flow intuitively. We have the concept and design laid out, but we need a team of programmers and web designers to pull it all together. By joining our team you will be making a significant difference in the lives of the youth! You will become a part of a world-changing project that is empowering youth, building community, creating an economy of gift-giving, and redesigning education through project and service-based learning, open source access to information and do-it-yourself tools.

The design and development of the GEM website is just getting started, but the project is moving along swiftly and it is very encouraging! Our plan is to use Wordpress with Buddypress, an open source social media builder, but we are still flexible to changing this, depending on our team's skillsets and preferences.

Website Features:

Optimal Search Directory; Interactive Global Maps; Member Profiles; Forums; Blogs; Instant Messaging; Private Messaging; Inspirational Newsfeed; Custom Fields; Video/Photo Sharing and more...

Our Web Development Team:

A very enthusiastic and professional web designer has volunteered to serve as the team manager for the development of GEM's website. He is well prepared for this position since he has had 4 years of experience managing web projects at the digital agency he works for. We also have another web designer and a very committed web developer who is a recent graduate student from the University of Michigan. An exceptional volunteer graphic designer, who has worked for all of the big company names, is currently devoting her time to branding GEM and designing the logo.

Specific Skills:

Knowledge of search engine optimization and responsive web design. These skills are highly desired but not essential. We'd love to know what you envision being able to contribute to the team!

Ready to Join the Project?

Please e-mail your resume and a brief into to yourself, including a phone number and good time to reach you, to Meghan Machado: meghan@circleofchildren.org
