This January we will be hosting try-it events in selected elementary schools. Try-it events are hosted by the elementary school. This is a commitment free way to try out mentoring and see if it is a good fit for you. This allows people who are interested in mentoring to meet children who are waiting to receive mentors in a stress free, fun group setting. We will be hosting the try-it event’s at: Hayward Elementary on January 22nd at 11:30am-12:30pm; and Canton's Lawrence Elementary on January 25th 12-1pm. Here is a little more information on what mentoring is: Our mentoring program is school based, mentors meet their mentee on school grounds at lunch time and spend time building trust and providing a stable relationship that a child can look up to. Typical mentor activities include playing board games, reading books, shooting hoops in the gym, or simply eating lunch together and talking. Mentoring is an extremely flexible volunteer opportunity. With over 70 locations available, mentors can select a school that is near their home or office. Most mentors meet with their student during lunch, making the program a convenient option for working people. Please Contact The Lutheran Social Services Mentoring Program so we can get you signed up for an event.
