PURPOSE: The Arlington County Fair Board member is responsible for working with the full board to organize, plan and conduct an annual county fair, executing additional activities consistent with this objective for the Arlington community and surrounding area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Attend monthly board meetings; Serve on a committee in special capacities commensurate with skills; Be available for assigned tasks and frequent shifts for the days leading up to and week of the fair reoccurring in August; Have a spirit of HUMOR and FUN!

QUALIFICATIONS: The Board should have a mix of membership from public, private and nonprofit sectors who bring a variety of professional skills and a willingness to donate personal time and energy to further the mission of the Arlington County Fair.

TIME COMMITMENT: Board members are elected for a term of three (3) years and can be elected for up to three (3) consecutive three-year terms. The Board of Directors meets once per month for no more than two hours.

Description

The Arlington County Fair is one of the largest free events on the East Coast and has been providing quality entertainment for 40 years. In recent years, attendance has reached 50,000 as people come from Arlington and surrounding areas to enjoy midway rides and games, entertainment, vendors, racing piglets, and more. The 40th Annual Arlington County Fair will be held August 17-21, 2016 at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center, 3501 Second Street South, Arlington, VA 22204. Admission is free, and shuttle service is provided from locations throughout Arlington. The Arlington County Fair is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization led by a volunteer board of directors.
