Reading proficiency by third grade is one of the most important predictors of high school graduation and career success. Despite that, 67 percent of children nationwide, more than 80 percent of those from low-income families, are not proficient readers by the end of third grade.
Reading Corps seeks to address this issue by inspiring a love of reading early on in a child's education. We are looking for one or two committed, responsible individuals to lead one of our Reading Corps sites during the fall semester. This afterschool site will met once a week on Monday from September 14 to November 16. As a Site Coordinator, you will lead a team of volunteer Reading Buddies and ensure the proper running of the Reading Corps sessions.
Volunteer site coordinators will be supported by a Reading Corps staff member, who will provide pre-semester training and on-site support for the first few sessions.
The position available is for Hugh Smith Recreation Center on Wednesdays after school.
