PURPOSE OF POSITION: To help ensure that the shelter dogs receive at least the minimum recommended number of walks/exercise each day and to better prepare the shelter dogs for adoption/transition in their new homes. Volunteer Dog Walkers assist from 7-9AM or between the hours of 4-6:30PM. We are currently recruiting Volunteers for all weekday mornings from 7-9AM and Monday, Wednesday, Thursday evenings from 4-6:30PM.
Provide shelter dogs with adequate walks
Answer questions from the public in accordance with TAILS policies/procedures
Clean/sanitize any dog supplies used during assigned shift
Inform TAILS Animal Care Staff of any animal behavior, temperament or health issues
Maintain a high level of communication with TAILS Animal Care Staff
Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older to be a Volunteer Dog Walker.
Note: For safety reasons, individuals with special needs and/or who are under the age of 16 years old must be accompanied by an authorized and designated parent supervisor (18 years+) who will submit their own TAILS Volunteer application, Volunteer fee and attend the Volunteer Open House, trainings and accompany the Volunteer for all Volunteer assignments/shifts. This must be a parent of the individual Volunteer. There are no exceptions.
