Sentara Hospice Services’ goal is to improve the quality of a person’s last days by offering comfort and dignity. Our carefully selected and well-trained volunteers are a vital part of this program, working alongside the professional staff to provide comfort and support to patients and their families. Our hospice volunteers have a strong desire to reach out with care and compassion. The Veteran Volunteer Program, part of Sentara Hospice Services, is a distinctive program involving veterans helping fellow veterans who are facing end of life. Volunteer support to fellow veterans and their families may include:Assist in replacing lost medalsAssistance with veterans benefitsProvide respite for family members/caregiversTransportation to medical appointments, museums, etc.Being a confidantAdministrative support

Description

Sentara Hospice Services’ goal is to improve the quality of a person’s last days by offering comfort and dignity. Our carefully selected and well-trained volunteers are a vital part of this program, working alongside the professional staff to provide comfort and support to patients and their families. Our hospice volunteers have a strong desire to reach out with care and compassion. Volunteer opportunities range from administrative, creative, bereavement support, special events, and other specialty support such as sewing and quilting to offering pet and massage therapy. Volunteering for direct patient care is also available and may include sitting with patient, reading, listening to music, and socialization.
