MLK Day of Service Projects at Southgate Community Center

Join friends and neighbors in honoring Dr. King’s legacy by serving your community. As Dr. King said, " Everybody can be great because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love." RCC is partnering with the Southgate Community Center, Reston Association, Cornerstones, and The Closet on community service projects.

Indoor projects include making bag lunches for the Embry Rucker Community Shelter, sorting and organizing items from The Closet and several other projects at Southgate Community Center. There will also be several outdoor projects such as cleaning up the natural areas, pathways, and hardscape surrounding the area, weather permitting. Volunteer hours conclude around noon, at which point volunteers will gather to share a lunch that will be provided.

Upon completing your application you will receive an email from Reston Association on "Step 2" of the process, which is how to self-register in VicNet (See Step 2 below)

STEP 2: How to register for the event. 1. Go to VicNet: http://bit.ly/VRVicNet - Log in using your email and password. Forgot your password or need one? Click on the " need a password " link. Enter your email address and click the " Go " button. Follow the prompts on the screen in order to create your password (Check junk/spam folder if you don’t receive an email). 2. Click on the " My Schedule " tab - Click on " Description " for event details. 3. In the blue box, use the drop down menu to select any assignment(s) that you want to review or select " all my assignments " to see all opportunities for that month 4. Scroll down to see the calendar, which will display " Help Wanted " icons for opportunities where volunteers are needed 5. Click " schedule Me " for the shift 6. Click " yes " to confirm your shift 7. Click " Continue " to go back to the monthly calendar or click " Exit " to logoff of your account. An email confirmation with volunteer information about your assignment will be sent out a week before your event. If you do not receive an email please contact habrock@reston.org .
