HOBY Maryland Director of Development Position Reporting to and in partnership with the Corporate Board President (CBP) and the Board of Directors, the Director of Development will spearhead development efforts as HOBY Maryland continues to grow. A new position in the organization, the Director of Development will have the opportunity to build the development function. Responsibilities Develop strategy Develop and execute HOBY Maryland’s annual fundraising and development plans. Create a Fundraising Committee, and oversee regular communication among group Keep the organization up-to-date on changing donor priorities and ensure that new funding opportunities are identified and shared with teams in a timely manner. Take the lead working with the Fundraiser in developing new income sources Raise funds Secure financial support from individuals, and cultivate donor relationships Coordinate applications for grants Facilitate and create relationships with corporate donors to solicit contributions Oversee cooperating organization relationships (through representatives) Administrative duties Manage all donations received, including financial contributions and Gifts in Kind - coordinate list with Thank-You Note Coordinator. Ensure that accurate and up-to-date information is maintained on all submissions, grant-funded projects and donors in relevant databases and filing systems. Produce up-to-date reports for staff, management and the Board. Updates social media with fundraising successes Qualifications College degree strongly preferred 3 years’ experience and degree preferred in business, fundraising, non-profit administration or similar field Grant-writing, marketing, and development experience preferred Knowledge of HOBY and HOBY Maryland, or willingness to learn Values teamwork, diversity, self-motivation, leadership and integrity Skills: interpersonal relations, strong writing ability, persuasive communicators and effective public speakers Attend quarterly seminar planning meetings, quarterly board meetings and other related events - at least 75% of the time, virtually or in-person. Commitment to the role for at least 3 years, and commits to assisting in the search for a successor and in the training of said successor. The Director of Development has a seat on the Board of Directors, as well as the seminar planning committee.

HOBY Maryland has graduated outstanding leaders since 1979, and annually serves close to 200 high school sophomores throughout Maryland at its four day seminar held each spring. In addition, HOBY Maryland serves more students throughout the year at its Community Leadership Workshops (CLeWs) held at various regional locations. Our alumni association is quickly growing into a recognizable force in the continuing development of its seminar graduates through organized community service activities.
