Thank you so much for your interest in making felt hearts which helps family members that are unable to visit their loved ones in facilities, families are separated at a time when they want nothing more than to be together. Silverado Hospice heart program was created to help ease the pain and let family members know they are surrounded with a loving connection from our team. Having a soft touchstone object can be comforting, especially at this time of limited physical touch and hugs. Family members can feel closer to their loved ones.

The process is simple.

  1. I will add you to my Volunteer Felt Hearts making roster and I ask that you email me 1x per month to give me an update.

  1. Unfortunately, I do have to ask you to mail the hearts to us as we do not have money in our budget to cover the cost OR I can pick items up from your location. Whatever works for you works for me.

Directions:
1. Pin your heart template to your felt.
2. Cut around the template; be sure to keep the template tight to the felt for a perfect finish.
3. Put the two felt hearts together and pin in the center. It is now time to start stitching.
4. To start the heart pull the needle and thread through the top layer of the felt, and pull the thread through BUT leave a length of thread inside the heart.
5. Make sure you do not pull out the previous stitch; put the needle and thread behind of both pieces of felt and pull through both pieces of felt.
6. Do not pull the stitch entirely through, but leave a loop at the top of the felt.
7. Pull the needle, thread through the loop, and pull tight.
8. You should now have one stitch with a piece of thread running along the outer edge of the heart.
9. Continue steps 4-8 until you have the majority of the heart sewn. Stop stitching and stuff your heart.
10. Continue to sew the heart, once at the end tie a knot with the needle and thread. Snip the ends and you have a beautiful felt heart.

Thank you for your commitment to helping our patients. I know someone special will enjoy your gift.
