A new Treasurer Is sought for Friends of the Palo Alto Library (FOPAL) which has a vibrant bookselling operation from donations from the public all for the benefit of Palo Alto libraries. This is a one-year term position which can be extended annually for up to three years. The current Treasurer completed a three-year term at the end of 2019 and the new treasurer has had to withdraw because of family obligations.

The role includes, with the help of the Assistant Treasurer (the outgoing Treasurer) and an outside bookkeeper, all aspects of the accounting and financial management of an entity with one employee, gross annual revenues of over $350,000, assets of around $500,000 and grants to the Palo Alto Library system of $200,000 this year. Time per week is estimated at about 10 hours.

Responsibilities include all aspects of budgets, accounting and reporting as well as cash and investment management, employee payroll and regulatory reporting. While not an absolute pre-requisite, some accounting and financial experience would be a plus and general computer literacy is required. Our accounting system runs on QuickBooks and reporting is via Excel.
