Love cats? Always wanted to help those kitties looking for their forever homes in a positive, friendly way? This is your opportunity! :)
We ask everyone to please fill out the volunteer application on our website so we know how to contact you, what you're interested in and you are properly registered.
Each evening we need to go visit our furry charges and clean their litter, feed them, play with them and give them some general loving! Ideally our volunteers also go during the day whenever they can to socialize as well - but the locked-in times we need are feeding/cleaning/playing in the early evening timeframe. Whether you can commit to one night a week or once every other week (or once/month?) - that would be great! It's easy and you really are making a difference!
Cat caretaking must be done during the store's hours (basically 9am-9pm, M-S, 9-7pm on Sun) and around what is considered "normal" feeding times. An orientation is mandatory. Please visit our website at www.tailsct.org, click on "Calendar" and sign up for a volunteer orientation. (or click here - https://tailsct.z2systems.com/np/clients/tailsct/publicaccess/eventCalendarBig.jsp)
We welcome responsible children as volunteers if accompanied by an adult and teens, based on successful completion of a probation period (and parental signature), can volunteer solo/pairs. We also have kitties at the Westport Petco near Home Goods/Michael's and across from Shake Shack in Westport and the Petco located at 650 Main Ave, Norwalk, next to Walmart. We welcome help at all three Petcos to help care for our adoptable kitties.
Thank you!

Mission Statement
The mission of T.A.I.L.S. is to serve the community as a charitable organization that promotes spay/neutering of animals and provides financial support to humane organizations and individuals in pursuit of this goal. We are dedicated to vigorously promoting and educating the community about the importance of spay/neuter to reduce, and eventually elimnate, the killing of unwanted dogs, cats, and other animals.
Description
TAILS is an all-volunteer, stand-alone, 501c3 spay/neuter organization based in Fairfield County. Put simply, TAILS funds and promotes spaying and neutering to save dogs and cats from being born into a world where there already aren't enough homes.
In November 2014, we took over the cat adoption space at the Petco-Norwalk location at 650 Main Ave (next to WalMart and Staples) and in 2017 we moved into the Westport Petco and subsequently the other Norwalk Petco (431 Westport Ave) store as well. Our primary focus is still spaying and neutering...however to avoid having to "put back out" friendly cats/kittens we come across during our work on the streets, we rely on our Petco adoption space and foster homes to help save these cats. We desperately need help with fostering cats/kittens and help with our daily cat caretaking at both Petco stores we are in.
For a snapshot of our work (and how busy we are), in 2023 we spay/neutered over 650 animals and adopted 253 cats into loving homes.
We welcome volunteers of all ages. Those under 16 who want to work as a Petco Volunteer Cat Caretaker need to volunteer with a parent/guardian until an exception may granted to work alone.
We cannot do it without the help of our community. We are all volunteers ourselves - trying to help make our neighborhoods better for our furry friends. Can you help?
Thank you.
