Some of the R-16 volunteers
Help these people restore the R-16 subway car!

In 2014 the New York City Transit Authority ran their "train of many metals" (the railfan nickname for the Rockaway Special heritage train) which included an R-16 running for the first time in nearly 30 years. This in turn attracted new fans to the R-16 here in Kingston. Several work days were organized to do work on the R-16 and the car was opened to the public in 2015. Now other subways cars in the collection are being worked on. We can use people of all skills and skill levels to continue the momentum of this reinvigorated restoration. Tasks can be socially-distanced for Covid-19 safety.

Mission Statement

The Trolley Museum of New York is a non-profit educational corporation chartered by the New York State Board of Regents. The Museum will exhibit, restore and operate appropriate pieces of its motive equipment and display static exhibits which will provide educational and recreation experiences for visitors. Through programs, lectures, publications and special events, the museum will augment its efforts to provide a meaningful education experience for its visitors and those who use it as a resource.
