ORGANIZATION: Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County

Accountable to: The affiliate board of directors

Description: The chair (or co-chairs) is committed to carrying out the stated purpose of the committee and Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County. The chair will supervise the work of the committee, delegate responsibilities to accomplish its goals and report back to the full board. The chair will also liaison with the Family Services Coordinator on staff to monitor families, as well as schedule new partner family orientations.

Expected commitment:

• Remain in service for a minimum of one year, after which you may continue or train a replacement.

• Attend monthly committee meetings.

Responsibilities:

• Call and preside over Family Support committee meetings.

• Set the agenda for committee meetings.

• Consult with the board of directors and past chair in choosing members for the committee; ask members to serve; outline committee responsibilities.

• Prepare reports to the board on committee activities and actions.

• Welcome and orient new committee members to their tasks and to the Habitat for Humanity ministry.

• Delegate responsibilities to other committee members and encourage their full participation.

• See that committee proceedings are recorded and distributed to committee members and directors.

• Attend affiliate annual meetings and fundraising events, and participate on the work site.

• Direct the writing of an annual report of all committee activities, including recommendations for next year.

• Meet with your successor and transfer records, files, etc.

Qualifications:

• Understanding of and passion for Habitat for Humanity ministry and the desire to promote it.

• Sensitivity to the challenges facing low-income families.

• Understanding of the difference between doing for and doing with.

• Ability to ensure the confidentiality of partner families.

We build affordable housing and also run a used building materials outlet to raise funds to support this mission.
