Make 2021 the year you help an adult in need from the safety of your home!

Oakland Literacy Council is looking for compassionate volunteers to tutor low-literate adults in Oakland County, Michigan for two hours a week for a year. Volunteers meet students on a one-on-one basis at a time convenient to both of them.

This is a volunteer experience where you see the direct impact on the life of another adult. Tutors may work with U.S.-born adults or English language learners. All students learn to read the things most of us take for granted, such as a prescription label, an insurance policy and signage. Foreign-born students also learn to understand spoken English and speak the language themselves.

In light of Covid-19, all tutoring is taking place virtually. When restrictions against face-to-face meetings are lifted, tutors and students have the option of meeting in a public location like a library.

No previous teaching experience is required. Training and curriculum is provided. Learn more at an upcoming 30-minute information session. Sign up for an information session by responding to this post or going to www.oaklandliteracy.com/become-a-tutor.
