External Relations coordinates sevices with and provides necessary liaison activities with government and private agencies. The Public Affairs Activity writes press releases, takes photographs, represents Red Cross in the Joint Information Center/Joint Operations Center, coordinates VIP visits and produces internal communications such as newsletters.

* Inform the disaster-affected community of available Red Cross services, and where and how they can be obtained

* Assure the disaster-affected community and the nation that the American Red Cross is on the job in the disaster-affected area, and update Red Cross stakeholders about how their donations are being used and what services are being provided

*Advise leadership and the relief operation about communication issues so all media messages carry an accurate and positive message about the Red Cross and the services we provide

* Write communication materials

* Communicate organizational messages at onset of disaster relief operation

* Mitigate issues regarding Red Cross relief services and manage public expectations regarding the role of the Red Cross

* Work as a team player and motivate others in team building, lead others as required

* Work in chaotic setting

* Ensure all Red Cross photography and brand standards are followed including Information Release Forms of people photographed or interviewed for Red Cross publication

* Help implement Service Delivery Plan and ensure activities in the Public Affairs unit are efficient and cost-effective

* Interpret and analyze media trends to ensure Red Cross messaging consistency

* Retrieve and sort public affairs information and reports

* Meet deadlines with limited resources

* Monitor and correct individual performance and to manage conflict

* Recognize problems early on and take action to corret the situation

* Involve supervisor in conflict management or problem solving when needed
