Family & Children’s Agency is seeking individuals to be "homework helpers" for high school students in FCA's ASPIRE program. Come join a dynamic team of committed volunteers and professionals who provide guidance and homework support to high school students at Norwalk Community College during the academic year. Tutors would work one-on-one with high school students after school or after work hours. No experience is necessary and volunteers are asked to volunteer for a minimum of one hour per week (4-6 pm), Monday through Thursday for a minimum of three months. Adults and older high school students are eligible for volunteering.

Program Information
Family & Children’s Agency seeks to improve the lives of Norwalk’s youth by enabling their successful transition into high school and increasing their ability to be productive, independent young adults. Knowing that frequent, consistent contact with program alumni is critical to academic achievement in high school, FCA recently instituted drop-in homework help hours for alumni. Volunteers in the After School Program play a vital role in allowing us to empower the at-risk youth we serve so that they become productive, independent young adults.

The program operates on the school calendar and does not offer programs during holidays and vacations.

Requirements
To become a volunteer in the After School Program, volunteers must complete an application and necessary background checks, including criminal, state, and Department of Children and Families checks. Volunteers must also complete an Agency orientation with Volunteer Services and a program orientation with the After School Program staff.

Family & Children’s Agency expects volunteers to commit to one hour per week for a minimum of three months. However, volunteers are encouraged to commit for the academic year. Many volunteers have seasonal activities or commitments and time off can be arranged to accomodate these activities.

* Positive role model
* Desire to work with youth
* Patience
* Good judgment
* Dependability/consistency
* Cultural sensitivity/awareness
* Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries
