The mission is to foster the development of high quality contemporary dance programming and expand the dance audiences in the Kansas City metropolitan region.

Description

City in Motion serves over 6,000 children and adults each year through our school, and performances. Our theme is Dance is for EveryBODY.

We are a unique non-profit dedicated to Kansas City for more than 30 years.

Our school is located in midtown Kansas City and our performance venues range from the Folly and Union Station theaters to Roanoke Park and area grade schools.

We offer 40 classes per week including modern, jazz and ballet technique classes and other fun specialty classes such as hip-hop, world dance and more.

City in Motion has a one of kind children's program. Children learn and perform in the Children Dance Theater. Older children and young adults to perform in the Apprentice Company.

The critically acclaimed professional 8 member dance company has performed at the H & R Block City Stage Theater at Union Station, The Folly, the Gem theater and has toured nationally and internationally.

City in Motion produces the annual regional collaboration of major modern dance companies.This annual adjudicated choreographers' showcase: "A Modern Night at the Folly" is performed at the venerable Folly Theater in downtown Kansas City.

We also produce the multi-community dance event: "Dance in the Park" performed by a host of regional dance companies in cooperation with five neighborhood associations: Volker, Roanoke, Coleman Highlands, West Plaza, and Valentine. This free, family event invites neighbors to gather and build a sense of community in the tranquil setting of Roanoke Park.
