Cat Care Assistants work directly with staff to ensure proper care and cleanliness of animal enclosures.

Responsibilities:

Duties include complete cleaning of cages, using proper techniques, cleaning litter boxes and bedding, spot cleaning as needed, and stocking supply areas.

Volunteers work quickly and efficiently to move cats to temporary housing, clean cat caging and equip kennels with clean litter and water for the day.

Volunteers also assist with the maintenance and general cleaning of floors, windows, doors and other surfaces in the cat adoptions ward. This is a very important position, and a great way to gain work experience in an animal shelter environment.

Volunteers may also provide assistance with laundry, grooming, cleaning & distributing toys, and socialization.

Qualifications:

Volunteers must be physically able to handle cats of all sizes and temperaments. Volunteers must be able to follow directions, think quickly and work with minimal supervision. We use walnut litter in the cattery, so those with nut allergies should not apply.

Mission Statement

The Humane Society for Southwest Washington enriches the lives of people, pets and our community through adoption and outreach, and serves as a resource for companion animal services and education.

Description

The Humane Society for Southwest Washington is dedicated to fostering a community where all creatures are treated with compassion and respect.

Founded in 1897, the Humane Society has a long tradition of caring for the animals of southwest Washington and surrounding areas. By working in collaboration with local veterinarians and animal rescue groups, the Humane Society and its partners in animal welfare look forward to a future where all companion animals will live in a loving home.

Through the work of our full-time and part-time staff, along with the assistance of more than 500 compassionate volunteers, the Humane Society for Southwest Washington offers an array of humane programs, including pet adoptions, community education, pet behavior advice, spay/neuter assistance and low-cost pet adoptions for seniors.

Through the generous support of local individuals, groups, and corporations, we are able to care for the thousands of orphaned animals we receive each year.
