Ring the Red Kettle bell this holiday season at available locations throughout Shreveport and Bossier City. The Red Kettle is The Salvation Army's biggest fundraiser for the year. The funds raised through the Red Kettle are used to support our programming such as Saints Alive which are seniors in the community, our Veterans, Carla's Haven and the shelter. The days are Monday through Saturday from 10am to 6pm starting November 24th. At least a 4 hour shift is required but a whole day shift is available for groups that rotate individuals. The 4-hour shifts are 10-2 or 2-6. Have to be 18 or older or an adult has to be present.

Mission Statement
The Christian Mission started by William & Catherine Booth in 1865, became The Salvation Army in 1878. It's in over 113 countries and more than 30 million a year are aided in some form by services provided by The Salvation Army. The functions of each corps include religious and social services which are adapted to local needs. Shreveport- Bossier: Caddo/Bossier/Webster/ Red River/ Desoto/ Parishes operating since 1904. The Merkle Shelter of Hope opened in 1926. Each corps is under the supervision of a corps officer, our officers are Major Ed & Carla Binnix.
Description
365 days a year, The Salvation Army provides shelter for over 103 homeless people a night: 25 Women with Children, 20 Veterans, 15 Single Women, and 50 Single Men and with an additional 30 emergency cots for extreme weather. Our disaster services prgram during Gustav provided shelter for over 300 people and 36,400 meals for state run shelters in need. On average lodging for over 30,000 people and serving over 150,000 meals a year. In 2009, The Salvation Army has provided help to over 163,000 personal assistance request thru the Senior Day Program, Disaster Services, School Uniforms Drives, Youth Corps, and at Christmas we serve over 6,000 children/families. Along with social services The Salvation Army's main mission is a fully operating Church with a Thrift Store in Shreveport.
