To create a vibrant community by empowering women and adolescent girls who have major challenges to self-sufficiency to rise above the odds and succeed personally and professionally using gender-speciific training, education and prevention programs.

Description

InStepp, Inc. is a community-based, tax-exempt, charitable organization located in Durham. The organization has served women residing in the Triangle area who have major economic and individual challenges to self-sufficiency since 2007.

InStepp offers long-term support and training to women who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking; women who are transitioning back into the workforce following separation or divorce; women transitioning from prison or jail and Hispanic-Latino immigrant women who are victims of crimes. Annually, InStepp Inc. provides women-specific and culturally-specific support and services to approximately 150 women in the Triangle area. Each of our clients receives follow-up support for an average of nine months.

InStepp uses a service intensive, long-term case management support model along with employment and career counseling, job placement assistance, skills training, mentoring support, transportation stipends, and financial assistance for empowerment activities such as re-skilling and continuing education classes to help its clients overcome their challenges. Personal advocacy is also a huge part of the agency’s support model. Other needs are addressed through referrals to organizations that provide resources for housing, food, health and late rental or utility financial assistance
