Cultural Canvas Thailand places volunteers within a local organization called Wildflower Home. Wildflower Home provides safe shelter, education, health and other services to young single mothers who are either pregnant or have very young children with the aim of helping them achieve self sufficiency. Due to their status as women, as poor, as mothers out of wedlock, and for many, as indigenous, this target population faces many forms of discrimination.
The home offers temporary safe shelter to mothers and their children from crisis situations such as pregnancy out of wedlock, domestic abuse and severe poverty. They also provide mothers with educational and emotional support, which will help to move them from crisis and poverty to steady jobs or continuing education. Wildflower Home is a in a rural setting that is similar to the setting from which the woman come. They are taught to live more closely with nature through agricultural sustainability, organic methods or gardening and permaculture design. The type of jobs available at Wildflower are:
Teaching English
Architecture/Tradesmen (ie plumbing, carpentry, etc)
Gardening/Sustainable agriculture/Farming
Fundraising/Grant writing

Description
Cultural Canvas Thailand is a non profit organization operating in the mountainous city of Chiang Mai, Thailand. Cultural Canvas Thailand offers short term and long term volunteer placements in local organizations working with various important humanitarian issues.
We believe that in contributing to these issues, you can make a difference to the local community that stretches far beyond the borders of Thailand. At Cultural Canvas Thailand, we have thoughtfully selected projects and partner organizations that are both of great interest to our team and great importance to the Chiang Mai community. In doing so, we have created a volunteer program and an artistic outreach program that delves deep into the community where you are most needed. This is your chance to lend a hand while learning about Thai culture, making new friends and forming memories that will last a lifetime.
