Advocates form the backbone of Hope Harbor, an agency which could not thrive without the indispensable efforts of quality volunteers. Our volunteer advocates serve victims of sexual assault around-the-clock via a crisis hotline (forwarded to your own landline or mobile) or in-person at hospital emergency rooms or police stations. Valuable information and support are provided by advocates to help victims make informed choices in their own best interest for recovery.
Those who wish to answer the crisis line must be at least 20 years of age. Selection process includes: application, interview, background check, reference checks, and successful completion of a 40-hour state-mandated training. Training offered 3 times per year, typically, April, July, and October.
Monthly meetings as well as various opportunities for continued education are held for active volunteers. Minimum monthly requirements easily met through flexible scheduling.
