About

This is an outstanding volunteer opportunity to become the lead coordinator of our highly successful Free Student Education Program, a major component of the upcoming 14th Annual San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival in March 2017, takimg place at Cowell Theater in San Francisco.

Now in it's 11th year, the Free Student Education Program invites middle school and high school students from throughout the Bay Area to attend a free screening of some of the most outstanding ocean-inspired films in the film festival.

For many students this their first time to learn about the ocean and to see independent, high-quality, ocean-inspired films from aound the world on the big screen. For most of the students, this is a unique opportunity to learn more about the ocean, its ecosystems and wildlife and to be inspired to protect and care for the ocean. It's also a great opportunity for young students to discover long-term career goals in marin biology, oceanography, and filmmaking.

The Education Program Coordintor (EPC) oversees at least one Education Outreach Specialist whose primary efforts are to outreach to schools, teachers, educators, and day camp organizers and introduce and invite them to participate in the program. For the upcoming film festival in March, we are hoping to attract more than 1,200 young students.

The EPC must have great organizational skills, preferably with experience in education and/or an interest in the environment, ocean stewardship, or marine biology. Roles include performing outreach efforts (email, phone calls, personal visits where appropriate) to Bay Area middle school and high school teachers and educators to introduce, promote, and register classes for the program.

The ideal volunteer will have the following skills; organized, outgoing, proficency in English, Microsoft Office, and Google Docs.

Help us reach Bay Area students who will be in awe of the ocean, learn about becoming better ocean stewards, learn about ocean related careers, all through the power of storytelling through films.

***Please include a brief summary of your background, current work or study schedule and a brief statement about your interest in protecting the ocean.
