The Brown County Humane Society needs volunteers to provide temporary care for animals in need.
BCHS places cats and dogs in foster homes when they need a little extra care: a few days to recover from surgery; a few weeks to grow up; some time to receive medical treatment; a place to rest away from the noise and activity at the shelter.
For some animals, time away from the shelter is what gives them the best chance.
Because our foster animals need a little extra care, we work carefully with our volunteers to find the right fit for their home and schedule, and they receive plenty of support.
Our foster volunteers are a crucial part of our highly successful adoption program. BCHS has achieved a 98% save rate, far above the national average of 50%, and we couldn't do it without fosters.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Brown County Humane Society is to be a community resource dedicated to promoting the welfare of all animals in our county. We provide temporary shelter to pets in need and promote adoption of homeless pets into loving, permanent homes. We advocate respect for animals through public education concerning responsible pet ownership. We support and promote spaying and neutering to ultimately eliminate pet overpopulation in our community.
Description
The Brown County Humane Society is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing for the health and well-being of the animals of Brown County. We offer a number of services to promote animal health and education about their care.
BCHS operates an open-admission shelter for cats and dogs from Brown County. We are very proud to have an outstanding annual save rate of 95% or more since 2010. No animals in our care are euthanized unless they are deemed too dangerous to be in the community or are too ill and suffering from an illness that can't be treated. All adoptable animals stay with us until a home can be found.
BCHS also provides community programs such as low-cost spay/neuter services, annual rabies clinics, temporary pet food assistance for families in need, shelters for outdoor pets, trap-neuter-return for feral cat colonies, and educational programs.
