New Futures seeks volunteers who can enrich our scholarship selection process by engaging and supporting students before and after their finalist interviews. The finalist interview is a key component of our scholarship application process that allows candidates to further advocate for a New Futures scholarship of up to $12,800.

We look for volunteers who can:

*Welcome candidates with warmth and enthusiasm.

*Help orient candidates to the interview location and agenda.

*Answer questions about the scholarship and application timeline.

*Take clear pictures of each applicant using a digital camera.

*Explain the requirements of a New Futures Scholar.

*Help New Futures staff members with set-up and signage duties.

Volunteer Requirements:

*Can commit to one or more of the following interview dates:

  • Saturday, May 2nd: 9:30am - 3:30pm
  • Monday, May 4th: 5:30pm - 9:00pm
  • Wednesday, May 6th: 5:30pm - 9:00pm
  • Monday, May 11th: 5:30pm-9:00pm
  • Wednesday, May 13th: 5:30pm-9:00pm (If an additional date is needed.)

*Has obtained or is currently pursuing a post-secondary degree or certificate.

*Can attend an in-person orientation on Monday, April 27th. (If you can't make that date, but are interested in volunteering, please indicate that in your email to us.) New Futures will also send information to provide volunteers with an overview of the selection timeline, eligibility, and criteria.

New Futures provides apractical yet innovative program of scholarships, career services and support to low-income DC-area young people pursuing shorter-term post-secondary educational opportunities toward fulfilling careers.

In close collaboration with our 13 Community Partners, New Futures provides a fully-integrated program that focuses on assisting our students in obtaining associate’s degrees, professional certificates and other shorter-term post-secondary educations that lead relatively quickly and inexpensively to fulfilling and well-paying careers.
