ORGANIZATION: Sea Save Foundation

In March 2013 in Bangkok, Thailand, Sea Save Foundation representatives joined the U.S. Department of the Interior, Interpol, and other high-profile NGOs at the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES). Representatives of 178 nations systematically reviewed lengthy proposals and decided which animals would be protected under international trade regulations.

Sea Save Foundation worked closely with national representatives, scientists, and other NGOs to advocate the protection of six marine species. While the proposals were strongly contested, our efforts were successful, and all five species were placed on the CITES Appendix II, affording them international protection.

This position offers a fabulous opportunity to work shoulder-to-shoulder with people and organizations influencing international conservation policies.

1. Project manage a PSA video about importance of CITES decisions

2. Communicate with United States delegation as we prepare for CITES 2015 in South Africa

3. Develop social media posts to drive excitement, interest and understanding before the CITES even fall 2016

This is an excellent opportunity for a volunteer to help us move forward with a highly visible campaign on the international stage.

Mission Statement

Sea Save Foundation stands witness to the health of the oceans and the threats they face, we document problems and develop solutions, arm people with knowledge, and tools so they can make a difference. With the public as our ally, we go to the United Nations and other global bodies to effect international change. We attend these meetings so we can offer creative, economically viable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly plans to decision-makers. We also make sure everyone is doing their best to meet their targets.

Description

Sea Save Foundation approaches conservation from two fronts:

  1. We develop and promote inspiring educational campaigns that showcase the beauty of ocean flora and fauna and underscore the current challenges facing our marine ecosystems.
  2. We couple serious environmental issues with concrete advocacy campaigns undertaken by our supporters and partners. With these programs, we hope to raise awareness about the importance of ocean conservation and create sustainable, healthy ecosystems for generations to come. It’s your ocean. Do something about it!
