At Mission St: Louis, we have a fantastic youth development program called Beyond School that works on site at St. Louis College Prep with 5th-8th grade students! Our Beyond School Program provides a safe place for children to go after school and in the summer. As a Beyond School Academic Mentor you will work directly with students with anything from math, literacy tutoring and homework help, to playing board games, leading sports activities, making crafts and more. On average, students in our program increase their reading ability by two months for every month they're with us!

Our Beyond School program is a year-round program, imbedded within the school day at SLCP. We are currently looking for Academic Mentor! We work with children on Mondays through Thursdays, 4:15-6:15 pm. Because we focus on building relationships, we ask that volunteers commit to coming in at least once a week for one semester (6-7 weeks).

Monday-Thursday we will also be working at the St. Louis Language Immersion School (SLLIS): The Spanish School as well as The French and Chinese School from 4:00-5:15 PM in addition to serving at SLCP. The language schools do not require foreign language skills, and these sites are both elementary schools.

Mission Statement

Mission: St. Louis' mission is to empower people to transform their lives, families and neighborhoods. We are committed to transforming the city of St. Louis by connecting individuals/groups to communities in need through education, empowerment, and economic development.

Description

Education

Mission: St. Louis believes education is the primary imperative in the empowerment and development of both individuals and communities. Through education, we can work along side individuals to inspire and develop indigenous leadership.

Empowerment

Mission: St. Louis seeks to empower people to grow and develop in all aspects of their lives. Empowerment means engaging people as equals, not as dependents of charity. To do this, we enter into dynamic interpersonal relationships based on mutual respect, trust, integrity, grace and compassion. Through empowerment, we are able to work together in achieving personal and community pride based on a regenerated sense of worth.

Development

Mission: St. Louis desires to develop people and communities holistically through economic and spiritual development. Lasting, authentic change only happens from the inside out. This means that we must work to bring about long-term change in both economic and spiritual spheres. We believe this can only come from building trust through authentic relationships.
